Voice typing

On-device voice typing for Windows and Mac

Click the field, hold the shortcut, speak. VeloxWaves types into whatever app you are in. The speech model runs on your computer. There is no cloud rewrite step and no separate chat window to copy from.

The job

Dictate anywhere you can type

Voice typing only helps if it works in the app you already have open. VeloxWaves does not ask you to compose in a sidecar and paste. The cursor is the destination.

Email and chat

Hold the shortcut in Outlook, Gmail, Slack, or Teams. The transcript lands in the field you already selected.

Editors and IDEs

Speak comments, commit messages, or a paragraph into VS Code, Cursor, Word, or Notion. Insertion is the keyboard, not a sidebar you copy from.

Forms and clinical fields

Voice typing is most useful in the box you cannot easily paste into. The focused control receives the text.

Loop

Three steps. That is the product.

  1. Step 1

    Place the cursor

Click the field you would have typed into. Voice typing is a keyboard replacement, not a separate compose app.

  2. Step 2

    Hold the shortcut

Default is Ctrl+Win on Windows and Ctrl+Cmd on Mac. Nothing listens until you hold it.

  3. Step 3

    Speak, then release

A local speech model turns the audio into text on your machine. The words are typed at the cursor.

Not a rewrite box

Literal voice typing, on purpose

Some voice-typing tools offer Cleanup, Rewrite, or Translate modes that send the transcript to a local or cloud language model before it hits the page. That can be useful. It is also a different product: you are no longer typing what you said.

VeloxWaves keeps the typing path conservative. The local speech engine produces the text. There is no Claude or GPT pass required for the words to land. If you want the architecture behind that choice, read how on-device dictation works.

After insert, the same transcript can join a private second brain on the device. Voice typing is the input. Memory is what happens next.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is voice typing the same as dictation?
For this product, yes. Voice typing, push-to-talk dictation, and local speech-to-text are the same job when the text lands in the focused app. The architecture behind that job is on-device dictation.
Does VeloxWaves rewrite what I said with a cloud model?
No. There is no cloud rewrite provider to attach. The words you spoke are the words that land. Conservative local cleanup is not a GPT or Claude pass.
Can I voice-type offline?
Yes for the typing path, after the app and any extra models you chose are on disk. Account, billing, updates, and optional support still use the network when you use those features.
Does this work on Windows, or only on a Mac?
Both, plus Linux. Voice typing is not limited to Apple Silicon, and Windows is not a cloud fallback.
