VeloxWaves vs Read.ai: On-Device Meeting Notes or a Meeting Agent?
August 19, 2026 · 7 min read
Read.ai is a meeting agent: it joins supported calls, summarizes meetings, and extends into email and messages. VeloxWaves is a desktop app that transcribes and summarizes on your computer, with no participant in the call and no cloud speech mode.

Read.ai is a copilot across meetings and inbox. VeloxWaves is local notes.
Read's homepage positions a meeting agent that captures and summarizes calls, then answers questions across meetings, emails, and messages. Ada is a digital twin for tasks. Connectors and a Chrome extension sit in Meet, Gmail, and the browser. The free plan is advertised as five meetings per month with no credit card.
VeloxWaves does not join the call and does not read your inbox. You start capture on the computer that is in the meeting. Transcription and the summary run there. Search later is the local second brain, not Ask Read across Gmail.
Choose Read.ai for unattended meetings and cross-channel memory
If the job is an assistant in the participant list, recaps when you cannot attend, email summaries, or one search box over calls and chat, Read.ai is built for that. Team sharing into Slack or a workspace is part of the pitch.
VeloxWaves will not do that work. It is the wrong replacement for a meeting agent that is supposed to sit in on the calendar.
Choose VeloxWaves when hosted recaps are the problem
Read.ai advertises SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA, and no training on your data by default. Those are cloud-product controls. On-device means meeting audio is not uploaded for transcription.
Use VeloxWaves for calls that should never become a third-party archive — and for dictation into other desktop apps on the same local path.
Pricing
Read.ai's public free tier is five meetings per month. Paid individual and team prices change; confirm them on Read's site before you budget.
VeloxWaves is free — no meeting-count cap, no word cap, no subscription.
Who should choose each app?
A bot in the call makes capture obvious to other participants; a local app does not. Obtain consent either way. Read.ai's compliance claims are theirs to document. VeloxWaves does not present local processing as HIPAA or GDPR certification.
- Choose VeloxWaves for on-device meeting notes with no participant in the call.
- Choose Read.ai for a meeting agent, inbox summaries, and hosted search across channels.
- If you want bot-free capture without Read's agent, compare Granola or Notion as well.
