This is not a ranking of the best AI meeting notes products overall. Fireflies, Notion, Granola, and Read.ai win many of those roundups on bots, workspaces, and domain authority. This page answers a narrower question: what is actually on-device, and who each architecture is for.
Capture on your laptop is not the same as transcribing on your laptop. Granola and Notion skip the meeting bot and still send speech to a remote model. VeloxWaves — on-device STT and a private second brain

Notion AI Meeting Notes — bot-free capture into a Notion page
Notion records system audio without a bot and writes the summary onto a Notion page. Calendar can start the note. Action items become Notion tasks. For teams that already live in Notion, that is the product. New users typically need Notion Business, not a standalone notetaker.

Fireflies — hosted notetaker, bots, CRM
Fireflies can send a bot, capture from a desktop or mobile app, or ingest uploads. Transcripts, summaries, and analytics live in Fireflies and can flow into CRM and Slack. It advertises SOC 2, GDPR, and HIPAA. It is a meeting platform, not an on-device speech product.

Read.ai — meeting agent plus inbox
Read.ai joins supported calls, summarizes them, and extends into email and messages. The free tier is advertised as five meetings per month. It advertises SOC 2, GDPR, and HIPAA. Search across those channels is the point.
